EVENT: Anne Shaheen & Valerie Jelenfy Stilson at Art Walk 4/13

Anne Shaheen considers herself a ReUse artist and has always been drawn to items that are old, worn, rusted, broken, just waiting to be part of a story that will be interpreted only by the curious observer. Valerie Jelenfy Stilson is a true renaissance woman, who began creating found object altars at the age of 71.  Her work is influenced by the Spanish Colonial folk art of New Spain and Mexico.  It reflects the passage of time and custom, mixing modern day themes with those of history.

MARIN IJ: San Rafael mattress shop could be a sleeper hit

When you enter one of downtown San Rafael’s newest pop-up showrooms, McRoskey Mattress Co.’s nearly 120-year history is apparent. The brick walls feature posters of hand craftsmanship and staffers explain how their products are made. For a San Francisco company like McRoskey, the pop-up concept proved to be a bold step and a chance to try new things. “Community is important to us and San Rafael is such a welcoming place,” said CEO Robin McRoskey Azevedo. “We’ve made connections through walk-ins, as well as being more convenient to our long-time Marin, Sonoma and Napa customers. We’ve learned that many people don’t like to travel to San Francisco if they can find what they need here. Reducing the barriers for current and potential customers informed our recent decision to negotiate a longer lease.”

SwingSet is a Jazz Quintet featuring Vocals, Reeds and Flute, Piano, Upright Bass, and Percussion. They play some of the greatest songs ever written from the Golden Era of Jazz...and so much more! The members of SwingSet have been playing music in the greater Bay Area and Marin County for over twenty years, and frequently play with the most talented musicians in Northern California!

EVENT: John Kraft at Art Walk Downtown 1/12

Artist John Kraft was born in Los Angeles in 1967. After graduating in 1989 with degrees in both Mechanical and Marine Engineering, John decided to pursue an artistic path. Throughout the 1990s he developed a style and visual vocabulary punctuated by bright colors and whimsical themes.
